Post knee replacement

I had knee replacement on my left knee May 3. I have had rehab three times a week since surgery and in between times I have been walking medium distance with my Afari. Imagine my surprise when I went to my rehab appt yesterday and was told they were releasing me a week and half early because I met all the criteria they set for replacement surgery.

I totally believe that my walking had a positive effect on my outcome. Thank you my Afari.

Increases coordination, strength and endurance!

Pat is a highly motivated go-getter. He loves a good challenge! Since his stroke, Pat has been trying to increase his coordination, strength and endurance. The Afari fits Pat’s needs perfectly.

It’s imperative to use proper body mechanics while walking. The Afari is incredibly stable and secure. It is a comfortable fit for Pat, and the base is wide enough to give Pat’s feet the space he needs when he walks.

The Afari allows Pat to be much more independent while walking, and it supports his posture. One of the most noticeable things about the Afari is that it relieves the left hip pressure that Pat often feels while walking. The Afari allows him to walk much farther before taking a rest break.

When Pat needs to rest, the Afari has special features like a tote basket for his phone and water. It also has an adjustable seat, which is an easy and comfortable way for Pat to take a rest break. His regular outdoor walking route is very tricky with small hills and rough terrain. The Afarihandles this terrain easily and safely.

The Afari makes it easier on Pat’s caregivers because he doesn’t need much assistance to ambulate. The support of the amazing Afari is all Pat needs!

Limitless Possibilities

Seeing my patient use the Afari for the first time was amazing! He was able to walk upright, while taking longer steps, and was much more stable than he had been when walking with other assistive devices.

He was initially skeptical of using the Afari, but I think any preconceived notions that he may have had about this assistive device were quickly debunked. As soon as he tried it out, he loved it!

The Afari has allowed my patient to have greater freedom with his mobility. I am so happy that he agreed to give it a try!

As a physical therapist, I am excited to see something like the Afari hit the market. There are so many individuals who will benefit from this product and the possibilities of where it can take you are limitless!

Game changer!

I have so many praises for The Afari. I sustained a C5/C6 spinal cord injury in August of 2013 and was initially paralyzed from the chest down and in most of the muscles in my arms. My injury is incomplete and so I have been able to regain a good amount of function since then -- at this point, I use forearm crutches to assist in my walking. I live in Michigan where there is snow and ice a good portion of the year and this winter I was introduced to The Afari. I think the reason why I titled this review "Game changer!" is because The Afari has literally changed the way I have been able to show up to my life this year. Since I was injured, that portion of the year where there is snow and ice has felt completely inaccessible to me and I would typically stay inside a lot -- and because of this become a little more sedentary.

But this winter, The Afari has reconnected me to my adventurous spirit that, truthfully, I have a had a hard time finding since my injury. I am out in the snow and ice with The Afari, with my yak tracks, and I am going for substantial walks that challenge me in length and aerobic exercise (even if it were summer here in Michigan). I feel safe and secure. My favorite thing is that I am able to focus on my gate pattern, posture, and the feeling of my muscle movements rather than the technique of using my crutches -- meaning this is the first time in a long time where I feel the excitement of being mobile and walking and NOT primarily worrying about not tripping, falling, or slipping. I can't tell you how much of an impact this makes alone.

Long walks with my crutches typically yield aches and pains in my knees and ankles -- and I have experienced none of that with The Afari because it is so posture supportive for me. I am also stronger in my gate pattern when I use my crutches because of this. I even noticed it was easier to dress the other day as my muscles are challenged in a completely different way with The Afari -- and have become stronger for it.

So far, I have been regularly using The Afari for just a month -- and I cannot wait to see what adventures await as the seasons change and I grow stronger! I absolutely love the physical benefits I am gaining -- but the level of emotional and mental comfort I have found is something there are not enough words or gratitude for! I definitely have found a new type of joy in my SCI journey with The Afari :)

A good walk

After spending a few months in double boots due to Achilles rupture bilateral my muscles atrophied in my legs and I needed to use a cane and my walker. I hated how I was slumped over when I walked and was so happy with the gift of the Afari. It allowed me to stand straight and walk normally and it felt so good. The Afari is very stable and I feel safe when walking and my daughter who walks with me keeps saying “slow down”. One of the special perks that I love is the removable basket that I can attach to take my very spoiled puppy, Maggie, with me on my walk. My cell phone is attached at eye level and is a wonderful convenience. Thank you Mobella
For helping me stay active. Jan W.
PS I notice when I do use my walker my posture is much better.
